This summer, True Texas Project is honored to be working with some of the most liberty-loving interns in the state! As we approach Independence Day, we thought it would be fun and inspiring to ask them, “Why do you love America?” Their heartfelt responses remind us of the enduring values that make our country great. These young patriots express their love for the freedoms, opportunities, and rich heritage that define America.
We are excited to share their thoughts with you, and we hope you will be just as encouraged as we are to know that there is a glimmer of hope for the next generation.
Here are their answers:
Claire – Age 21: “I love America, not only because the 4th of July is the best holiday of the year. But also because it’s a place where I can express my ideas freely, knowing they’re valued even if they’re different from others. Living here, I’m grateful for the spirit of innovation that drives our progress. I feel incredibly lucky to call America home.”
Zane – Age 18: “I love America because of the freedom to own guns and the freedom to live my own life however I see fit. Some countries keep their citizens under strict rules and laws and strip them of all natural rights and basic privileges. but our federal documents work to protect our natural rights. That’s why I love America.”
Allissa – Age 18: “The reason why I love America is because America gives me the opportunity to pursue my goals and dreams for my future. I love America because of the freedoms that are given daily to protect a free country. In America, we have the right to freedom of speech and many more freedoms that a lot of other countries do not have. “
Isaiah – Age 18: “Where to start with America. It’s a country that provides freedom that no nation has ever offered. The knowledge that men of all ages went and made the ultimate sacrifice for my freedom gives me a passion for what they believed. The thought that I get to live in a Nation where I can express my religion, my ideas, and my opinions, there’s no other place I would rather be. This is why I love living in America.”
Gracie – Age 17: “I love America because our founders created a code of law based on the principle that big government meant eventual tyranny, and the people deserved more say and more representation. It is a country where everyone has equal freedom, equal opportunity, and equal rights, and despite its current failures, America is still the best country in the world.”
Ryan – Age 17: “I love America for two reasons. Our national parks are filled with breathtaking nature and wildlife, which is truly mesmerizing. Additionally, American food, including desserts, is some of the best you’ll ever taste.”
Trevor – Age 16:
“A) Free markets – America has some of the most skill-expressive forms of business in the world. Employers choose who to hire, what to pay them, and how much they need to sell their products for in order to provide for themselves and their employees.
B) Governmental system – The Electoral College is BRILLIANT! Uniform representation for states through senators and population-based representation for states through the House of Reps. As those we freed our country from would say, ‘BLOODY BRILLIANT!’”
Sarah – Age 17: “I love America for many reasons. We have so many freedoms allowed because of the sacrifices of many. I love that I live in a country that pushes back on normalized ideas and does not simply go with the status quo. Finally, I love that I live in a land of opportunity. There is so much to explore, discover, and love, and I am blessed to live in a country that allows me these opportunities. “
Hearing their perspectives gives us hope for the future and reinforces our belief that the next generation is ready to carry the torch of liberty. Let’s celebrate their passion and commitment to preserving the principles that make America exceptional. Happy Independence Day!
