Grassroots Coalition Urges Governor to Enforce Freeze on H1-B Visas

Grassroots Coalition Urges Governor to Enforce Freeze on H1-B Visas

June 25, 2026

True Texas Project has lead group of grassroots leaders in sending a Coalition letter to Governor Abbott regarding his order to freeze H1-B Visa use by state agencies and Texas universities.  In spite of the Governor’s Executive Order in January, 2026, we have seen concerning evidence suggesting at least two state universities
are openly defying the H-1B hiring freeze and continuing to issue new requests for H-1B visas.

*The University of Texas at Austin posted a Notice of Intent to Hire an H-1B / E-3 Employee for a Research Engineering role.
*Texas A&M University has allegedly filed 57 H-1B applications since the order.

The H1-B Visa Coalition Letter urges immediate enforcement action against Texas public universities that are attempting to evade the executive order freezing H-1B hiring.  If you agree that Texas taxpayers should never be forced to fund salaries of foreign workers over qualified Texan and American citizens, we urge you to contact Governor Abbott and your State Senator and Representative, to insist that the Governor’s freeze order be enforced.  Texas institutions exist to educate Texas students, strengthen the Texas workforce, and serve the public interest—not to operate as taxpayer-funded immigration sponsors for foreign labor.
