Democrats Endorse In GCISD Race

October 19, 2020

We wanted to share with you a story written for Texas Scorecard regarding the school board race for Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.  Here it is in its entirety.

Democrats in Tarrant County are countering pro-citizen True Texas Project’s recommendations of three citizens in the race for the Grapevine-Colleyville school board.

Democrats are asking voters to support three other candidates—two of which are incumbents.

On October 15, True Texas Project CEO Julie McCarty shared a post of a pamphlet in which three Tarrant County Democratic Party precinct chairs endorsed candidates in the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District election this November. The pamphlet says Democrat Precinct Chairs Brian Patrick, Tevita Uhatafe, and Peter Sime endorse incumbent GCISD Board Trustees Doug Noell and Jorge Rodriguez, as well as newcomer Coley Canter.

Texas Scorecard confirmed that the three individuals are precinct chairs in the Tarrant Democrat Party and contacted all three in an attempt to confirm the pamphlet’s validity.

“It is true,” Patrick said, confirming he has endorsed the three candidates. “My name is on the flyer, and the reasons for the endorsement are stated on the flyer.” He also confirmed every word of the pamphlet as authentic.

Uhatafe and Sime did not respond before publication time.

“Be aware that Tommy Snyder, Casey Ford, and Cacy Tischer are supported by the True Texas Project, a.k.a. the Northeast Tarrant Tea Party,” the pamphlet reads, claiming TTP is against school funding.

“It’s bad to be supported by True Texas Project, but ok to be endorsed by all the Dems?” McCarty asked.

True Texas Project has offered a list of recommendations—not endorsements—for local elections in three counties this November. For the GCISD trustee election, Snyder, Ford, and Tischer are recommended. “These recommendations come from a few of our supporters that live in those counties, but the TTP Board has NOT vetted them. Use this as a starting place for your OWN research,” the site reads.

Patrick, Uhatafe, and Sime aren’t the only Democrats endorsing Canter, Noell, and Rodriguez. A recently retired GCISD teacher encouraged voters to support a list of Democrats in Tarrant County and specifically mentioning the three GCISD candidates.

“Zero surprise here, endorsed by Democratic precinct chairs,” former Republican congressional candidate Chris Putnam posted. “Vote Tommy Snyder, Casey Ford, and Cacy Tischer, Republican friends!”

“I am not involved in the endorsements you mentioned, but one thing both Democrats and Republicans agree with is we both want great schools for our children,” Rodriguez said in his reply to Texas Scorecard, in which he also identified himself as a Republican. “To continue to have great schools in GCISD, our community knows we need to re-elect the incumbents.”

“When there are no Democrats on the school board ballot to choose from, the Democrats will choose the best Republicans available because we will continue to provide an excellent education for their children. We only enact policies that are pro-student.”

2020 has exposed to Texas parents the pervasiveness of Democrat agendas in our public schools, with radical Marxist documents shared in Plano ISD, a Wylie school assignment comparing police to Ku Klux Klansmen, and Carroll ISD’s board trying to ram through a pro-LGBTQ “Cultural Competence Action Plan.”

While school elections are supposedly nonpartisan, it has become clear that they are anything but.

Early voting is underway through October 30 for the November 3 election. A full list of True Texas Project’s recommendations can be found here.
