Hello, True Texans!
TWO THINGS TO FOCUS ON NEXT WEEK!
First thing – I hope by now everyone has seen the messages for the SBOE meeting coming up on Monday June 22! It’s really important to get as many people as possible to attend and/or submit written comments. The left is organized and energized, and we need to out-do them. Remember that quote from Morton Blackwell: “Political success is determined by the number and effectiveness of the political activists on either side.” We need you on our side!
THE FINAL DAY TO SIGN UP FOR IN PERSON TESTIMONY IF FRIDAY JUNE 19 AT 5:00 PM. Otherwise, you’ll have to show up at 7:30 am on the day of the meeting, and who wants to do that?
If you missed the previous message, please review here: Fran’s Friday Message May 29. In that message, you’ll find background information, talking points, and why it’s important to encourage final adoption of the social studies TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills).
ACTION ITEMS for SBOE:
- Plan to attend the meeting on June 22nd, to either testify or support others. If you’re in the DFW area, sign up for the free bus to Austin for this meeting.
- If you cannot attend the meeting, submit written testimony to the board members using this email address. ([email protected])
- Whether or not you attend, contact your own SBOE representative to let them know you support curriculum that emphasizes historic accuracy, traditional American and Texan values, and the Christian nature of our nation’s birth and development, without Islamic influence. Ask them to adopt the proposed TEKS without further amendment. Don’t know who your SBOE representative is? Find out here.
YOU MUST SIGN UP TO TESTIFY:
In person testimony instructions can be found here. The period to sign up for in person testimony is Tuesday June 16, 8:00 am through Friday June 19 at 5:00 pm. You can also sign up in person at the meeting on June 22nd, but it can only be done 30 prior to the meeting start time of 8:00 am.
Choose COFB Agenda Item #2: Proposed new 19 TAC Chapter 113 Social Studies TEKS. Choose the position “FOR” when registering.
WHAT: SBOE Meeting – final vote on social studies TEKS
WHERE: Barbara Jordan Office Building, 1601 No. Congress Ave, Austin
WHEN: Monday, June 22, 2026, 8:00 AM
Second thing – The Senate State Affairs Committee is meeting on Tuesday June 23, to review election integrity matters, and specific bills passed last session regarding election security. I’ll be there and plan to testify. If you’d like to join me, just let me know. We can meet up ahead of the hearing and go in together. I can also help with talking points for testimony. Many of you have expressed that you are not satisfied with the election security bills that came out of the 89th session. This is your chance to express your opinion!
Here is the notice of public hearing with full details.
Interim hearings are important! There is no particular bill to pass or fail, but these are times when the committee considers implementation of previously passed legislation, and evaluates how it affects Texans. These hearings may determine how a law needs to be altered or amended to improve it. It’s also a less stressful time than regular session because the clock is not running. A great time for citizens to provide input!
A quick note on the RPT Convention that we attended last week. It was a great experience, but my biggest take away is that people from all parts of the state told me how much they appreciate True Texas Project and are grateful for the information and support we provide. Dozens and dozens of people stopped me to say that during the week in Houston. Some of them, I don’t even know, but they know me and Julie and they know TTP! It made my heart swell every time! Everyone of you should be proud of that because it’s all of you – your emotional support, your attendance at events, your financial support, and especially your engagement – that make it all possible.
So – THANKS FOR STAYING ENGAGED!
Fran Rhodes, President
True Texas Project
