The Creative Garden
Join us to visit fellow gardener Susan Thompson’s unique garden! Susan has successfully blended herbs, perennials, flowering shrubs and yard art with both whimsy and sentimental touches throughout. See how a creative spirit uses everyday items to work magic in the garden, like an old wooden ladder to support a beautiful clematis plant, a crib box spring for a trellis, colorful glass bottles for a bed border, and even an old toilet as her “pot plant.” She grows vegetables in high raised beds that are easy to tend, grows blackberry vines on a homemade trellis and has fig trees as well. Her sustainable food effort includes a pair of laying hens in a large coop and an above-ground pond with goldfish. As a dynamic septuagenarian, Susan is sure to inspire gardeners of all ages that having a beautiful, functional garden full of food, flowers and fun is possible with some planning and a little imagination!
For newcomers, our Garden Growers Co-op meetings are informal times of sharing, so they’re great opportunities for new and experienced gardeners to get together, learn from each other, make friends and have fun! Our purpose is food freedom—gaining greater independence from corporations for our food. We hope you’ll join us!
