This month at True Texas Project we are hosting one of the few elected officials who consistently advocates for the taxpayer in whatever capacity he can. Chris Woolsey serves on the Corsicana City Council, and is here to share with us what he has learned from his time in office, as well as working as a commercial real estate advisor and property tax consultant. Chris was the only vote against a massive tax increase in his first year on council, and the only vote against forcing businesses to close in the early days of COVID. He also proposed a “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” measure and nullifying federal vaccine mandates affecting city employees and contractors. We can’t wait to hear what insight he might share regarding eliminating property taxes, appraisal reform, and ending taxpayer funded lobbying.

About Chris Woolsey:
Chris Woolsey is a commercial real estate advisor and property tax consultant with Means Luce Properties. He is currently serving his second term on Corsicana City Council. Chris has also managed and consulted for several municipal and county political campaigns, helping get good conservatives elected at the local level.
A consistent advocate for taxpayers on city council, Chris has been steadily turning the tide at the local level. He was the only vote against a massive tax increase in his first year on council, and the only vote against forcing businesses to close in the early days of COVID. He led the charge to increase police and fire funding in the middle of the national “defund the police” while also cutting property taxes. He also proposed a “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” measure and nullifying federal vaccine mandates affecting city employees and contractors. Chris has been called to testify at the capitol on eliminating property taxes, appraisal reform, and ending taxpayer funded lobbying. In 2022, Corsicana was the only taxing entity in Navarro County to pass a tax rate lower than the no new revenue rate. Due to his leadership, property taxes in Corsicana are lower today than they were in 2019.

Chris graduated from Texas A&M University and is a former high school educator. He serves on the board of the Corsicana YMCA, the Navarro College Business Council, and Backpacks of Love. He attends First Baptist Corsicana with his wife, Courtney, where his father-in-law is the Senior Pastor.
